Experiencing Brazil - 02
As soon as I landed and freshened up in Rio, I headed to
Copacabana beach. It is one of the must visit beach in Rio and a top tourist
attraction there in Rio. Since I went with Ines, we went in local public
transportation which was a plus point for me to experience Brazil as a local.
We took metro till centro and from there we took a beach to Copacabana. It was
around 40 min commute overall. Copacabana beach is a white sand beach and is
very beautiful, when I visited it was a Sunday afternoon and hence it was
little crowded but not as crowded as any of Cali beaches. We took a beach chair
there and spent an hour in the beach, the water is little colder than normal temperature,
but it was pleasant. There were so many beach venders there selling t-shirts,
bikinis etc. After spending an hour or so in Copacabana we walked the entire
stress on the beach side and reached Ipanema beach. Ipanema beach is just adjacent
to Copacabana but not as commercial as Copacabana.
It is as much beautiful as Copacabana
but not commercial. I had received clear instructions from Ines on the security
aspect, I should not open the camera on road, and I should not use phone much
on the streets, however it is very safe to use on the beach. In Ipanema beach I
drank fresh coconut water. Drinking coconut water from coconut is very
different than in India. They just made a small hole into the coconut just to
insert a straw. The coconut water was very good in taste and it was quite filling.
By this time, it was late evening and my body needed some rest, so we headed
home and called it a day.
The next day, I went to visit the Christ and sugarloaf.
Since I was little accustomed to use public transport I went in metro and bus
only,
I wanted to avoid using uber as much as possible. To visit the Christ we
need to take a ticket at the entrance and use tram to reach the peak. Christ is
on the top of a hill and to reach the top tram facility is there, however few
people would hike also. The weather was beautiful that day to visit the Christ.
Although it was Monday it was crowded, I had to wait for an hour to get into
the tram. It is a huge statue of Christ and was Rio’s iconic monument.
After visiting the Christ, I felt like completing
Rio’s trip. Although I spent next two days roaming around Rio, main purpose of
visiting Rio was to experience the beach and to visit the Christ. The entire
trip was amazing and I would strongly recommend visiting Brazil if anyone is
planning.
