Rape Rape Rape

Couple of days back a medical student was gang raped in Delhi by a group of 6 men in a moving bus. The girl along with her male friend boarded this bus thinking it as a city bus. Both of them were beaten badly and the girl was gang raped. After the incidents both the girl and her friend were stripped and thrown out of the bus.

I was thinking about the root cause for rapes and got many aspects which provoke a person to rape a girl like seeing a girl at isolated place, girls teasing guys, or girls behaving badly with girl. These are just provocations and not the reason to rape. The reason goes back to the environment he has grown up in. Also many other facts like

• If the person has seen lot of cheating in his life,
• if the person has interacted much with multi faced people,
• if the person has seen his parents quarrel daily,
• if the person has seen lot of violence,
• if the person has been involved in wrong friendship, or
• if the person has been involved in wrong relationship with a wrong person etc.

Then in that person’s mind all wrong ideas will arise. These ideas if killed at the beginning only then he will never even think of raping a girl but if he keeps thinking about all wrong doings just for time pass also then that will take a wrong turn in future. Basically the group of friends we are with determines what we are. A person can be judged just by seeing his friend circle, and if we have friends who keep thinking about wrong doings all the time then it is an indication that we are in wrong circle. Either we should try to reform them or stay away from them.

In this incident there were 6 guys who raped a girl in front of her male friend. I still do not understand how can 6 people think the same way, wasn’t there any one guy who tried to change their thinking? If 6 people together decide to do something then raping a girl is not a big deal, also it is not a big deal to suppress any small help she might have got from outsiders. If 6 people have raped a girl together then it shows how low their way of thinking is, People say girls provoke guys to rape them, provoking is totally different from the actual reason. The actual reason is the guy’s thinking has reached a very low level. 

I was reading Sudha Murthy’s book which contains many incidents of her life like meeting people when earth quake happened in Gujarat, meeting strange peoples in some functions etc. In one of the incidents she meets a prostitute and tries to figure out her background. That girl was sold by her own younger brother to a Mumbai red light area broker. After being sold in red light area the girl would not have any other option to come out of it, even if she comes out the society will not accept her as a person. This particular incident we can consider it as an unfortunate one but if we think more about the incident then it shows how low a person can reach. How can a brother sell his own sister? These kinds of people are the one who encourages prostitution, rapes, murders and all. 

Basically girls are just an object for these guys. These guys require psychological help and if they reject to take any help they should be imprisoned, but how to identify these guys in the first place? Do these guys look different? The answer is no. Do these guys talk different? The answer is again no. So then how to identify the guys?  This is practically an impossible task but what we can do is to identify these people among our groups and help them. If they refuse to agree with us or if they argue with us then we should bring this to some person who can control them, be it be their parents or be it their wives or worst case to the police. It will not completely solve the problem but it will at least create awareness among us. The other way is to punish the criminals publicly who are caught in these incidents. This will create a fear for future criminals. End of the day we cannot police all the people in our country but we can just create awareness and fear to reduce rapes.
