Jab Tak Hai Jaan – My Take

Couple of weeks back I watched this movie Jab Tak Hai Jaan. It was the last directorial venture of Yash Chopra. Shah Rukh Khan, Katrina Kaif and Anushka Sharma have acted in leading roles. The movie was basically a love story and as usual shah Rukh khan has played a 25 year old lover boy. His present age is 47 and he is playing this 20-25 year old lover boy kind of roles from past 15-20 years. Knowing all these facts we went to watch the movie. The movie was around 3hrs in duration and nowadays movies will be around 1.5 hrs. So the worst part in the movie was its duration than srk’s age i can say. In the first half of the movie Srk will be in London and will be a poor guy who struggles for even food. He will be working in different jobs simultaneously to earn money like cleaning the snow on road, working as server in hotel, singing songs in road, selling vegetables etc. And Katrina Kaif is from a very rich family and she will roam around only in Rolls Royce cars. Srk sees Katrina in church while she was confessing something and falls in love with her at the first sight only. Later he sees Katrina while he was singing songs on road. Katrina gets impressed by his Punjabi song and asks him to teach her some Punjabi song. Srk accepts on condition that Katrina should teach him English on return. While these teachings and learning both will fall in love but Katrina decides to break up with Srk saying this would hurt her father. Both promise the same in church that they ll breakup. Later they break their promises and gets closer again. The day Katrina decides to tell this to her father Srk meets with an accident and Katrina thinks that it happened because they broke the promise. She prays for his life and again promises that she will never become close with him. This time he survives and Katrina comes to Srk and tells the same. Now Srk becomes angry on her and goes back to India to prove that she should believe in love not in god. He decides to take all risks just to die, he will be thinking that if he dies or meets with accident again without her being with him; and then that will prove that previous accident was not because of their love. He joins military in bomb diffusing department so that the risk will be more. He starts diffusing bombs without any protection. He will never die or meets with any accident while he is away from Katrina. He becomes very famous and become army major in 10 years. While he was in army he meets Anushka and by mistake Anushka reads his dairy which reveals every minute details of his love story so far. She decides to join them together, she will be working as some reporter in national geographic channel and she gets an opportunity to shoot program ‘the man who never dies’ which will be srk’s life history. She captures everything and her boss tells her to bring Srk to London before airing that program. Srk initially refuses to come to London and then he goes to London. In NGC channel campus he meets with an accident again and loses his last 10 years memory. When he wakes up he will be thinking that he was there with Katrina. Now Anushka meets Katrina and asks her help and act as if they are 10 years behind. Few days later when he was in some railway station in London there will be a bomb alert and police will be clearing the station. This comes as a shock and Srk regains all his memory. He asks Katrina to marry him again and she refuses again saying if he marries her then he will die. He becomes angry again and goes back to India to his old job. Katrina realises that she was wrong and she goes back to India to marry him. After she comes back there will be another live bomb. Srk tells her to wait for few min and diffuses that bomb and comes back. Now both Srk and Katrina unite and Anushka goes away to her normal life. Few good things: 1. The dialogues are good and show the strength of their love. 2. Srk, Katrina and Anushka all three have acted very well. 3. Songs and choreography are good 4. picturisation of all location are good. Few negative things: 1. First of all the movie was very lengthy. 2. SRK can no more play 25 year old lover boy. 3. Katrina should improve her Hindi. 4. Anushka should improve her acting. Bottom line is if we want to watch a typical bollywood love story then this is the best one to pick.
