Appraisal Cycle
A few days back I got my CRR and that was the time I faced what really works in an IT company. What I felt after getting the appraisal is that here in IT Company it does not matter if you work or not, only thing that matters is the relationship you have with your manager. If you follow "Boss is always right" principle then you will get good appraisals but if you try to defend on what you believe then it will screw up your appraisal. Here I had a team mate who was following the above said principle and I was not following it. What happened ultimately was he got CRR1 and I got CRR2. I am unhappy not because I did not get CRR 1 but because a non-eligible person gets good rating and what we work does not really matter at the end of the day. The person who got CRR1 has 5 pending certifications, he has not done even a single BOK, he has not contributed for k-shop, and in my case I have completed all my certifications but haven’t submitted BOK or K-shop tools. Hence I am not unhappy that I did not get CRR1. Anyways after this CRR cycle many of my seniors are telling that what you work really does not matter. And we just need to agree what our manager tells in order to get good rating. I got a funny fwd email telling "IF YOUR BOSS IS DETERMINED TO SCREW YOU, ANTICIPATE IT AND BE PREPARED TO ACCEPT IT". This is really true and if the person is really good at work but bad at maintaining a good rapport with his manager will never succeeds in IT Company. Basically we are not recognizing the talented people but recognizing dumb people. If what I am assuming is true then around 60-70% of higher management people are dumb and have reached their positions just by building a good rapport with their managers. If so then a company cannot grow to its fullest extent. This is a simple logic and I am not sure why people are still not understanding this simple fact or is that I am only confused and understanding something differently. For some questions I really do not get any answers
