2009
Today is the last day of the year which is like a bookmark in my life. This is the first year in my career wherein I have spent the complete year as a software engineer. I still remember 31st 2008, we were in Mysore and we had some hands-on exam on 1st of 2009. From past 5 years this is the same situation with us. When I was in BE our university was conducting exams on 1st of every year and my first New Year occasion in Infy also went same. I have spent 2009 in 3 different DCs. first 6 months I was in Mysore undergoing training, later we were posted to Mangalore and on 29th of may we went to Mangalore DC and we sat idle there doing some internal project in java which was our extended stream. After 3.5 months in Mangalore we got an opportunity to move to Hyderabad DC for a project and we accepted it and here I am in Hyderabad now. I had never ever imagined that we are going to leave Mangalore so early. It was fun there, we were playing cards daily till 1am and we were boarding 7 45am bus in the morning which was the last bus for campus. If we miss that bus then we had to go to campus by private busses and on an average we had to change 3 busses if we go by private bus. The whole Mangalore life was like an adventure. And this adventure lasted only for 3.5 months still it made a huge impact on our lives. After coming to Hyderabad we were immediately moved into project and this is a new project and hence we are learning much. The way we do any work has changed drastically from the way we did our 8th SEM project to training projects to internal project and finally to the actual project. In one year my life has changed completely almost 90 degree change in the direction. I have had never lived away from home before joining infy and here I am completing the whole year staying independently. I knew that my life after BE is going to be changed while our campus recruitment was going on but I never had expected that our lives will be changed to this extent. I was getting lot of fwd SMSes saying that friends will not be in constant touch once we join different companies and everybody knew this theoretically but practically experiencing all these changes is very different. We were a group of 8-10 guys in BE who were always together but now all of us are staying in different parts of India and if we want to contact any person we have to contact them through this technology itself. We can hear their voices and at the max we can see their live images also but we cannot talk face to face. I still remember one incident when our lecturer sent students out of class who had not brought graph sheets. I was the only one who had graph sheet and one of my friends took away that sheet and dragged me outside class and we went to juice centre. And after BE I have seen that friend only twice. I had never experienced a state of life being busy but today almost every day I will be busy in one or the other work. I had never cut a call while I was in BE but today if I am in some meeting and if somebody calls me I have to cut their call and get back to them after going home. Corporate life is completely different from college life, theoretically we knew this while we were in college and now we are experiencing the same. I really do not know how our life is going to change after marriage.
